On 4 September 2020, we filed a U.S. patent application for a new shrouded padlock design developed by William B. Tway. The application, filed by The Wilson Bohannan Company, addressed a padlock configuration in which the body incorporates an extended protective shroud around the shackle, reducing the amount of exposed shackle available for physical attack. The filing shows the continuation of in-house product development 160 years after Wilson Bohannan received his first padlock patent. William B. Tway was named as the inventor, extending the Tway family's involvement in the company's technical work. The application subsequently matured into U.S. Patent No. 11,168,504, granted on 9 November 2021.
