On 13 December 2007, we celebrated the opening of our redesigned facilities at London Heathrow's Terminal 3 with a launch event featuring the Spice Girls. All five members of the British pop group — Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell — attended alongside Virgin Atlantic founder Sir Richard Branson. The event brought together the completion of a major airport development project and one of Britain's best-known music groups, reflecting our longstanding connection with popular culture.
The redesigned facilities were part of a wider programme to improve the departure experience for Virgin Atlantic passengers at Heathrow. Developed with Foster + Partners and our in-house design team, the project included a brighter, more spacious check-in area, additional self-service facilities and improved passenger circulation. It also incorporated the Upper Class Wing, which had opened in November, providing eligible passengers with a dedicated arrival and check-in experience and access to a priority security channel.
The Spice Girls' appearance coincided with their return to Britain during their 2007 reunion world tour, ahead of their London performances. Their participation gave the launch a distinctly British cultural identity while drawing attention to the improvements we had made to our Heathrow operations. The occasion celebrated the investment in our Terminal 3 facilities and our approach to combining practical airport services with a recognisable Virgin Atlantic personality.
