In 1993, we opened our first airport lounge outside the United Kingdom at Boston Logan International Airport, extending Virgin Atlantic's premium ground services to an overseas destination. The opening followed the introduction of our first lounge at London Gatwick in 1990 and the launch of the Heathrow Clubhouse earlier in 1993. It brought our approach to airport hospitality to the United States, where we had been operating scheduled flights to Boston since 1991. The Boston lounge provided a dedicated pre-flight environment for eligible Upper Class passengers, offering a more comfortable and private space away from the main airport terminal. Its introduction formed part of our efforts to provide a more consistent premium travel experience, extending the attention given to onboard comfort and service to the time passengers spent at the airport. Opening a lounge in Boston was an important step in developing our international airport services. Until then, our dedicated lounges had been based in London. The new facility demonstrated how the Clubhouse concept could be extended to overseas airports, allowing us to provide premium ground hospitality at both ends of a transatlantic journey.
