ARVN's Inept Performance in Ap Bac Battle

The Battle of Ap Bac serves as a critical example of the challenges faced by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) during the early stages of the Vietnam War. In this engagement, the Viet Cong (VC) forces, despite being significantly outnumbered and less equipped, managed to defeat a larger ARVN contingent. The ARVN's operational failures were evident, as they lost 83 soldiers and five US helicopters, which were primarily used to transport troops. In contrast, the VC suffered only 18 casualties.
