In 1540, Spanish explorer Francisco Vásquez de Coronado embarked on a notable expedition to explore the Southwestern United States. Leading a large expedition of soldiers and Native American allies, Coronado set out from Mexico in search of the legendary Seven Cities of Gold. His journey took him through present-day Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Kansas, becoming one of the first Europeans to explore these regions. Although he did not find the fabled riches he sought, Coronado's expedition greatly expanded European knowledge of the American Southwest. His travels marked a significant chapter in the early exploration and colonization of the United States. #FranciscoVásquezdeCoronado #exploration #AmericanSouthwest #SpanishExplorer
