In 1540, Spanish explorer Francisco Vásquez de Coronado embarked on a notable expedition to explore the Southwestern United States. Leading a large expedition of soldiers and Native American allies, Coronado set out from Mexico in search of the legendary Seven Cities of Gold. His journey took him through present-day Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Kansas, becoming one of the first Europeans to explore these regions.
