Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota, suspended shipments of 64 vehicle models following extensive safety investigations that revealed serious misconduct in testing procedures. This action affected various models, including the Toyota Yaris Ativ, Perodua Axia, and Toyota Agya, among others. The investigations uncovered that the test speeds and results for headrest impact tests had been falsified, raising significant concerns about the integrity of safety assessments. In particular, discrepancies were noted in models like the TownAce and Pixis Joy, where the airbag control units used during testing were not the same as those installed in the vehicles sold to consumers. This discrepancy poses a potential risk to vehicle occupants in the event of an accident, as the tested components may not perform as expected in real-world scenarios.
