The Achaemenid Dynasty, one of the most significant empires in ancient history, traces its origins to Achaemenes, who is recognized as its founder. Achaemenes is primarily known through the Behistun Inscription, which serves as a crucial historical source. This inscription, created during the reign of Darius I, provides evidence of Achaemenes' role as the first ruler of the Achaemenid kingdom. His lineage continued through his son Teispes, who also appears in the Behistun Inscription, indicating the early establishment of a ruling family that would later expand its influence across a vast territory. The dynasty's prominence grew with subsequent rulers, including Cyrus I, who is noted for being the first Achaemenid ruler with more substantial historical records, and Cambyses I, the father of Cyrus II, who would later become known as Cyrus the Great.
