Following the fall of Beijing to rebel forces, Chenggong and his followers pledged their allegiance to the Ming dynasty. This declaration was a pivotal moment in the ongoing struggle against the Qing dynasty, which had begun to assert its dominance in China. Chenggong, recognized for his commitment, was honored with the title Guoxingye, translating to 'Lord of the Imperial surname.' This title underscored his role as a key figure in the resistance movement. He established his base in Xiamen, where he organized efforts to counter the Qing forces. Chenggong's strategic planning included a major offensive from Guangdong, aimed at reclaiming territory and bolstering Ming loyalist forces. However, his plans faced significant challenges, including adverse weather conditions that hampered troop movements and a surprise attack by Qing forces on Xiamen, which forced him to retreat temporarily. Despite these setbacks, Chenggong's loyalty and military strategies played a crucial role in sustaining the Ming resistance during a tumultuous period in Chinese history.
