In its efforts to expand its presence in the food and beverage industry, Starbucks initiated a significant experiment by opening eateries in the San Francisco Bay Area under the Circadia restaurant brand. This move was part of a broader strategy to diversify its offerings beyond traditional coffee shops. The Circadia brand aimed to provide a unique dining experience that complemented Starbucks' coffee culture. Concurrently, Starbucks transformed its Seattle Circadia restaurant into a Café Starbucks, further integrating its restaurant and café concepts. This dual approach allowed Starbucks to test the viability of a restaurant model while maintaining its core coffee business. Additionally, Starbucks made a strategic acquisition of Pasqua Coffee, a retail coffee chain based in San Francisco, which had nearly 60 locations across major cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City. This acquisition not only expanded Starbucks' footprint but also enhanced its market share in the competitive coffee retail sector.
