Spain and France signed the Peace of the Pyrenees, ending the long-lasting war between the two nations which had begun in 1635. As part of the treaty, Spain had to cede French Flanders and the northern portion of the Principality of Catalonia to France. This marked a significant territorial loss for Spain, further weakening its position in Europe. The Peace of the Pyrenees also established new boundaries between the two countries and introduced measures to ensure the protection of religious and political rights for French and Catalan citizens. While the treaty brought an end to the conflict, it further solidified France's position as a dominant power in Europe at the expense of Spain's declining influence. #PeaceofthePyrenees #WarEnds #SpainandFrance #TerritorialLoss #HistoricTreaty
