In March 2021, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, joined the Aspen Institute’s Commission on Information Disorder, participating as one of a group of commissioners tasked with examining the spread of misinformation and disinformation in the United States. The commission consisted of approximately 15 to 18 members from fields including media, technology, policy, and civil society. Prince Harry served in a part-time capacity during a six-month study that aimed to address what the Aspen Institute described as a “modern-day crisis” of false and misleading information. The initiative focused on understanding how misinformation spreads, its societal impact, and potential strategies to reduce its influence. The commission conducted research, consultations, and discussions throughout 2021, culminating in the release of a final report in November 2021. The report outlined a series of recommendations targeting technology platforms, government institutions, and public awareness efforts to counter disinformation. Prince Harry’s involvement formed part of his broader engagement in issues related to media accountability and digital information environments following his move away from senior royal duties.
