Campaign Chairs for Vax Live

In April 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were announced as Campaign Chairs for Global Citizen’s Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World, an initiative aimed at promoting equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. The announcement came as part of Global Citizen’s broader efforts to address vaccine distribution gaps between high-income and low-income countries during the global pandemic. As Campaign Chairs, the couple supported advocacy efforts encouraging governments, pharmaceutical companies, and international organizations to accelerate vaccine donations and distribution. They participated in campaign messaging and public outreach, emphasizing the need for vaccine equity. Meghan Markle made a public appearance at the event, where she highlighted the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on women, particularly in terms of economic setbacks and workforce participation. The Vax Live concert was held on 02/05/2021 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and was broadcast globally across multiple platforms. Organized by Global Citizen in partnership with organizations such as the World Health Organization and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the event featured performances by artists including Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, and Foo Fighters. It also included appearances by public figures and health leaders advocating for increased global vaccination efforts. According to Global Citizen, the campaign contributed to securing commitments from governments and organizations to share vaccine doses and funding support, with announcements during the event totaling more than 1.5 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses pledged globally. The initiative formed part of ongoing international efforts to expand vaccine access during 2021.
