In June 1884, Nikola Tesla made a significant move to the United States at the request of Charles Batchelor, the manager of Edison Machine Works. Upon his arrival, Tesla quickly began his work at the Edison Machine Works located on Manhattan's Lower East Side. His initial responsibilities included troubleshooting installations and enhancing generator performance. Tesla's dedication to his work was evident when he reportedly stayed up all night to repair damaged dynamos on the ocean liner SS Oregon, a task that may have allowed him to meet Thomas Edison on a couple of occasions. During his time at Edison Machine Works, Tesla also worked on developing an arc lamp-based street lighting system, although this project was never put into production. Despite his contributions, Tesla left the Edison Machine Works by early January 1885, likely due to disputes regarding unpaid bonuses. This period marked the beginning of Tesla's journey in the United States, setting the stage for his future innovations and contributions to electrical engineering. #mooflife #mof #MomentOfLife #NikolaTesla #EdisonMachineWorks #1884 #ElectricalEngineering #Innovation
