In 1941, Nicaragua took a significant step in the context of World War II by declaring war on several Axis powers. The declarations began on December 8, when Nicaragua announced war on Japan, followed by declarations against Germany and Italy on December 11. Subsequently, on December 19, Nicaragua also declared war on Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania. Notably, Romania was the only nation to reciprocate by declaring war on Nicaragua on the same day. Despite these declarations, Nicaragua did not send any troops to engage in combat. Instead, under the leadership of President Anastasio Somoza García, the Nicaraguan government took economic measures by confiscating properties owned by German residents in Nicaragua. This action reflected the broader tensions and sentiments of the time, as nations aligned themselves in the global conflict. Nicaragua's involvement in World War II, although limited in military terms, showcased its political stance and the impact of the war on domestic policies.
