On May 21, 2018, renowned astrophysicist, cosmologist, and author Neil deGrasse Tyson was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Yale University during its 317th commencement ceremony. At the time, Tyson served as the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
