The Western Contact Group (WCG) was established as a coalition of Canada, France, West Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This group was formed to address the political situation in Namibia, which was under South African administration and seeking independence. The WCG aimed to facilitate a diplomatic process that would lead to an internationally recognized transition to independence for Namibia. Their efforts culminated in the development of Security Council Resolution 435, which outlined a framework for resolving the Namibian issue. This resolution was significant in setting the stage for Namibia's eventual independence, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing colonial legacies and promoting self-determination.
