Motorola's decision to sell its Biometrics business to Safran, a French defense firm, marked a strategic shift in the company's focus. The biometric business unit, which was based in Anaheim, California, specialized in fingerprint recognition and other biometric technologies. This sale was part of Motorola's broader strategy to streamline its operations and concentrate on its core telecommunications business. The agreement was reached in October 2008, and the transaction was finalized in April 2009. Following the acquisition, the biometric unit was integrated into Safran's existing operations and became part of Sagem Morpho, which was subsequently rebranded as MorphoTrak. This integration allowed Safran to enhance its capabilities in the biometric sector, leveraging Motorola's established technologies and expertise.
