Land Reform by Sfatul Țării

The land reform initiated by Sfatul Țării aimed to address the agrarian issues in a predominantly rural region where 87% of the population resided in rural areas. This reform was part of a broader effort to create a middle class and improve agricultural productivity. However, the implementation faced challenges, particularly regarding the size of the land plots distributed to the populace. Many beneficiaries received small parcels of land, which limited their ability to cultivate effectively and achieve economic independence. Additionally, the reform was criticized for favoring politicians and administrative personnel, who were granted larger plots due to their support for the Romanian government's political objectives. This preferential treatment undermined the reform's intent to empower the rural population and foster equitable land distribution.
