On 12 September 2020, the National Committee for the Salvation of the People (CNSP) in Mali agreed to an 18-month political transition aimed at restoring civilian rule following a military coup. This significant decision marked a pivotal moment in Mali's political landscape, as it set the stage for a return to democratic governance. Shortly after the agreement, Bah N'daw was appointed as the interim president by a group of 17 electors, with Assimi Goïta taking on the role of vice president. The transitional government was officially inaugurated on 25 September 2020, signaling a commitment to the transition process. However, on 18 January 2021, the transitional government announced the disbandment of the CNSP, which occurred almost four months after the initial agreement was made. This development raised questions about the stability and future of the transitional government, as well as the ongoing challenges facing Mali in its quest for lasting peace and democracy.
