On December 20, 1971, Larry King faced a significant setback in his career when he was dismissed from both WIOD radio and WTVJ television following his arrest for grand larceny. The charges were brought against him by his former business partner, Louis Wolfson. This incident not only led to his immediate termination as a late-night radio host and sports commentator but also resulted in the loss of his weekly column at the Miami Beach Sun newspaper. During this tumultuous time, other staff members took over the coverage of the Miami Dolphins' games, including their disappointing 24-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl VI. Fortunately for King, the charges were later dropped, and he was rehired by WIOD. In the years that followed, he made a successful return to broadcasting, hosting a popular sports talk show called 'Sports-a-la-King,' where he engaged with guests and callers, solidifying his presence in the sports media landscape throughout the 1970s.
