Delia Smith Endorses KellyBronze Turkeys

In 1989, cookery writer and broadcaster Delia Smith visited our farm and chose our turkey for her new book, Delia Smith’s Christmas. The recognition came during a difficult period for the business. We had spent several years developing our bronze turkey while trying to establish a viable market for a bird that differed from the mass-produced white turkeys then dominating British retail. The effect was immediate. Customers began asking independent butchers specifically for KellyBronze turkeys, prompting butchers to contact us about stocking the birds. Our company history remembers this as the point at which demand began to build after the challenging early years of developing the KellyBronze, while later independent accounts similarly report an influx of enquiries and orders from butchers following Smith’s recommendation. Smith’s association with KellyBronze continued beyond that first endorsement. She has subsequently spoken positively about the Kelly family’s traditional approach to producing turkey, making her early support an important part of our history.
