In the early 1900s, Joseph Stalin was actively involved in socialist movements in Georgia, particularly in Tiflis. His engagement began while he worked as a meteorologist at the Tiflis observatory, where he gathered a group of socialist supporters. Stalin played a crucial role in organizing a secret workers' meeting, which led to a significant strike on May Day. His activities drew the attention of the Okhrana, the secret police of the Russian Empire, which was tasked with suppressing revolutionary activities. In March 1901, the Okhrana attempted to arrest Stalin due to his growing influence and involvement in organizing protests against the authorities. However, he managed to evade capture by going into hiding, relying on donations from friends to sustain himself during this period.
