In late 2007, Jerry Seinfeld reprised his role as Barry B. Benson for Bee Movie Game, the video game adaptation connected to DreamWorks Animation’s feature film Bee Movie. The release marked one of the rare occasions in Seinfeld’s career where he participated directly in a video game production through original voice acting work.
Released alongside the animated film in late 2007, Bee Movie Game was published for multiple platforms including PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, and PC. The game expanded on the movie’s storyline by combining driving sequences, flying missions, puzzle-solving, and action gameplay centered around Barry’s adventures in both the human and insect worlds.
Unlike many licensed movie games that relied heavily on replacement performers or imitation voices, Seinfeld recorded original dialogue specifically for the game adaptation. Voice acting databases and production credits confirmed that he returned to perform Barry B. Benson directly rather than allowing the role to be handled entirely by soundalike actors. His participation helped maintain continuity between the film and the game during promotional campaigns surrounding the movie’s release.
Several additional cast members from the original film also reprised their characters for the game. John Goodman returned as Layton T. Montgomery, while Patrick Warburton voiced Ken, Vanessa Bloome’s boyfriend. However, not every film actor participated in the adaptation. Some versions and promotional materials credited A.J. LoCascio with voicing Barry B. Benson in supplementary or alternate content, while Melissa Disney replaced Renée Zellweger as Vanessa Bloome in the game adaptation.
The project formed part of the broader multimedia rollout for Bee Movie, which was co-written and produced by Seinfeld in partnership with DreamWorks Animation. The film itself was released on 02/11/2007 and became one of Seinfeld’s most commercially visible projects outside of stand-up comedy and television sitcom work. The accompanying video game reflected the common entertainment industry strategy of pairing major animated releases with licensed interactive adaptations during the 2000s.
Although Seinfeld was not widely associated with gaming culture or video game performances, his involvement in Bee Movie Game demonstrated the extent of his creative participation in the Bee Movie franchise. The role remains one of the few direct video game voice acting credits connected to his career.
