In February 1999, Jerry Seinfeld participated in the “Famous Faces, Watch Auction For Charity” hosted by the auction house Antiquorum in New York City. As part of the event, Seinfeld donated a luxury Breitling Chronomat wristwatch, with proceeds directed toward charitable causes.
The watch sold for approximately $13,200 at auction, though some contemporary reports placed the final figure closer to $11,000. Either result positioned the sale at or above the watch’s estimated retail value, which was reported at around $11,700 at the time. The event attracted attention from both celebrity-watch collectors and entertainment media because of Seinfeld’s well-known interest in luxury timepieces and collectible accessories.
The donated model was identified as a Breitling Chronomat Automatic Ref. 13050.1, produced in 18-karat yellow gold. The watch featured a 40mm case, a black dial with an iridescent blue effect, stylized gold Arabic numerals, sapphire crystal protection, and a black strap paired with an 18K gold buckle. Breitling collaborated in the donation, contributing to the charity-focused nature of the auction.
By the late 1990s, Seinfeld had already developed a reputation as a serious collector of luxury watches and automobiles. During the original run of Seinfeld, he was frequently seen wearing Breitling Chronomat and Navitimer models both on and off screen. Watch enthusiasts later identified multiple Breitling references appearing throughout the sitcom’s nine-season run, helping associate the brand with Seinfeld’s personal style and public image.
The Antiquorum auction formed part of a broader trend during the 1990s in which celebrity-owned luxury items increasingly became prominent attractions at charity auctions and collector events. Antiquorum itself was internationally recognized for specializing in rare and high-end timepieces, frequently hosting sales involving historically important or celebrity-connected watches.
The event occurred less than a year after the conclusion of Seinfeld in 1998, during a period when public interest in Seinfeld’s personal collections and luxury hobbies remained especially strong. His participation in the charity auction combined celebrity culture, luxury watch collecting, and philanthropy in a format that attracted considerable media attention at the time.
