On 25/12/1999, Jerry Seinfeld married Jessica Sklar in a private Jewish wedding ceremony held in New York City. The ceremony took place in a penthouse loft in Greenwich Village and was attended by approximately 40 close friends and family members.
The wedding was organized with considerable secrecy in an effort to avoid media attention. Reports at the time stated that guests were instructed to remain available by phone until shortly before the ceremony so the exact location could be revealed discreetly. Seinfeld also reportedly used a decoy limousine to help prevent photographers and reporters from tracking the event.
Jessica Sklar, who later became known publicly as Jessica Seinfeld, wore an ivory empire-waisted slip dress with spaghetti straps designed by Tommy Hilfiger, where she had previously worked in public relations. The ceremony reflected a relatively intimate and understated atmosphere despite Seinfeld’s enormous public profile following the global success of Seinfeld, which had ended its television run the previous year in 1998.
Comedian George Wallace, one of Seinfeld’s closest longtime friends from the stand-up comedy circuit, served as best man during the ceremony. Guests reportedly included comedian Mario Joyner and a small circle of close associates and relatives. Notably, none of Seinfeld’s principal Seinfeld cast members attended the wedding, a detail that drew some media attention at the time because of the strong public association between the actors following the sitcom’s success.
The relationship between Seinfeld and Jessica Sklar had already received substantial tabloid coverage before the wedding. Media attention focused heavily on the timeline of their relationship because Jessica had previously been married before later divorcing and becoming engaged to Seinfeld. Despite intense press scrutiny during that period, the couple remained together and later built a family life largely centered between Manhattan and the Hamptons.
Following the marriage, Jessica Seinfeld went on to become an author and philanthropist, eventually founding the nonprofit organization Baby Buggy, later renamed Good+Foundation, in 2001. The couple became known for maintaining a comparatively private family life despite Jerry Seinfeld’s continued public visibility through stand-up comedy, television appearances, and media projects.
