On 05/04/2022, Ivanka Trump provided approximately eight hours of voluntary testimony to the U.S. House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. The interview was conducted virtually, and she participated without invoking the Fifth Amendment or executive privilege, in contrast to several other former White House officials. Her testimony became a central element of the committee’s public hearings, which began in June 2022. One of the most widely cited portions of her testimony addressed the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. In recorded video shown during the committee’s first public hearing on 09/06/2022, Ivanka Trump stated that she accepted then-Attorney General William Barr’s conclusion that there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud sufficient to change the election result. This statement was used by the committee to illustrate internal acknowledgments within the administration regarding the election outcome. Ivanka Trump also described events inside the White House on 06/01/2021. According to testimony presented by the committee, she was present during a phone call between Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence on the morning of January 6, during which Pence was urged to reject the certification of electoral votes. Additional testimony from her former chief of staff indicated that the exchange included strong language directed at Pence, which reportedly caused visible discomfort for Ivanka Trump. The committee further presented accounts that Ivanka Trump attempted to intervene during the unfolding events at the Capitol. Testimony indicated that she entered the Oval Office at least twice that afternoon to urge the President to take action and call on supporters to disperse. Witnesses cited in the committee’s findings described her as visibly distressed during this period and noted that she stepped away at times after unsuccessful efforts to influence the response. Following the public release of excerpts from her testimony, Donald Trump publicly disputed her characterization of events, stating that she was not closely involved in reviewing election-related matters at the time and had “checked out” of those discussions. #IvankaTrump #January6 #USCongress #CapitolAttack #USPolitics
