On 19/09/2017, Ivanka Trump delivered a speech on combating human trafficking during a high-level event at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. She participated in the session at the invitation of then–UK Prime Minister Theresa May, joining international leaders and officials to address global efforts to end modern slavery. At the time, Ivanka Trump was serving as a Senior Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump. In her remarks, she described human trafficking as the “greatest human rights issue of our time” and emphasized the scale of the problem, noting that tens of millions of people worldwide were affected. She stated that such levels of exploitation were “unacceptable” and highlighted the wide-ranging consequences of trafficking, including its impact on families, economies, and legal systems. Her speech called for stronger international cooperation, urging governments and institutions to work together to disrupt trafficking networks and support victims. During the event, Ivanka Trump also referenced a financial commitment by the United States to combat modern slavery. The U.S. Department of State pledged $25 million to the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery, a contribution that was matched by the United Kingdom, bringing the combined total to over $50 million. The funding was intended to support programs focused on prevention, victim protection, and strengthening enforcement mechanisms in regions heavily affected by trafficking. Her participation at the United Nations formed part of a broader set of anti-trafficking initiatives during her time in the White House. Ivanka Trump was involved in multiple Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report rollouts at the U.S. Department of State and engaged in policy discussions with international partners. In January 2020, she also contributed to organizing a White House event marking the 20th anniversary of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, where new measures targeting child exploitation and forced labor were announced. #IvankaTrump #UnitedNations #HumanTrafficking #ModernSlavery #GlobalPolicy
