On 26/02/2026, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified for more than six hours in a closed-door deposition before the United States House Committee on Oversight and Accountability as part of its investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associates. The committee, chaired by James Comer, is controlled by Republicans who have focused on individuals with documented or alleged ties to Epstein. Under oath, Clinton repeatedly denied having any relationship with Epstein. According to statements made after the session, she testified that she never met Epstein, never visited his private island, and was never on his private plane. Addressing questions about Epstein’s longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell, Clinton described Maxwell as a “casual acquaintance” encountered at several public events, including gatherings connected to the Clinton Global Initiative. Regarding Maxwell’s presence at Chelsea Clinton’s 2010 wedding, Clinton stated that Maxwell attended as a “guest of a guest.” Clinton told reporters after the deposition that she had “no idea” about the criminal conduct of Epstein or Maxwell. She accused Republican members of using the hearing as “partisan political theater” and argued that attention should also be directed toward Donald Trump’s past interactions with Epstein. Democratic members of the committee have publicly supported calls for Trump to testify under oath as part of the broader inquiry. The session was briefly paused following a procedural dispute. Representative Lauren Boebert was accused of taking a photograph of Clinton inside the deposition room. The image was later shared on social media by an influencer, prompting objections from Democratic lawmakers who described the act as a violation of committee rules prohibiting unauthorized recordings or photography during closed proceedings. The committee did not immediately announce disciplinary measures. Clinton also said the questioning took an “unusual turn” near the end of the session, stating that members asked her about UFOs and the so-called Pizzagate conspiracy theory. Chairman Comer indicated that, although the deposition was conducted privately, the committee intends to release the transcript and video once they have been reviewed by attorneys. Her testimony marked the first day of a two-day series of depositions involving the Clintons. On 27/02/2026, former President Bill Clinton appeared before the same committee in a separate closed-door session related to the Epstein investigation.
