GCC Center for Disease Prevention and Control Is Launched

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) established the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to enhance health security across its member states. This initiative was driven by the need for improved surveillance and preparedness for both communicable and noncommunicable diseases. The center aims to foster better coordination among the public health systems of the six GCC member countries, which include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman. The decision to create this center was influenced by the experiences and lessons learned from various health emergencies, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in addressing health threats. By centralizing efforts in disease prevention and control, the GCC seeks to build a more resilient health infrastructure that can respond effectively to future health challenges. The center is expected to play a crucial role in facilitating information sharing, conducting research, and implementing health policies that align with international standards, ultimately contributing to the overall health and well-being of the region's population.
