In 2005, Gordon Ramsay expanded into Japan with the opening of Cerise, a casual brasserie-style restaurant located on the 28th floor of the Conrad Tokyo in the Shiodome district. The venue launched alongside the fine-dining flagship Gordon Ramsay at Conrad Tokyo, forming part of Ramsay’s first major restaurant presence in Asia. While the flagship focused on formal European haute cuisine, Cerise was designed as a more relaxed all-day dining alternative, offering accessible dishes in a contemporary hotel setting overlooking the Shiodome area of Tokyo.
Cerise operated as a casual brasserie with a contemporary and comfortable interior, featuring high ceilings and large windows typical of the Conrad Tokyo’s upper floors. The concept emphasized flexible dining across breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a menu blending European brasserie influences and lighter offerings suited to hotel guests and local diners. Positioned within the luxury hotel environment, Cerise complemented the flagship restaurant by broadening Ramsay’s reach beyond fine dining, allowing guests to experience his brand in a less formal setting during his early expansion into the Japanese market.
The opening formed part of Gordon Ramsay Holdings’ mid-2000s international growth, which included ventures in Europe, the United States and Asia. The Conrad Tokyo restaurants represented one of Ramsay’s earliest large-scale partnerships in the region and introduced both high-end and casual formats within the same property.
