Ghana's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, announced the government's intention to adopt French as a second official language. This initiative aimed to enhance regional integration and cooperation, given Ghana's geographic position surrounded by French-speaking countries like Togo, Burkina Faso, and Côte d'Ivoire. To support this policy, the government planned to promote the learning of French across all educational levels, starting from basic schools. This effort was part of broader educational reforms intended to equip Ghanaians with multilingual capabilities, thereby improving diplomatic and economic relations with neighboring Francophone countries. However, as of March 2025, while significant strides have been made in integrating French into the educational system, French has not yet been officially adopted as Ghana's second official language. The government's commitment to this goal remains, with ongoing efforts to enhance French language education and proficiency among Ghanaians. #Mooflife #MomentOfLife #Ghana #FrenchLanguage #OfficialLanguage #WestAfrica #EconomicIntegration
