Galileo's Early Life in Florence

Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, within the Duchy of Florence, as the first of six children to Vincenzo Galilei, a notable lutenist and music theorist, and Giulia Ammannati, who came from a family of merchants. His early life was marked by a significant family relocation when he was eight years old. The Galilei family moved from Pisa to Florence, a city known for its rich cultural and intellectual environment. During this transition, Galileo remained in Pisa under the care of Muzio Tedaldi for an additional two years, which allowed him to continue his early education in a stable environment. At the age of ten, he rejoined his family in Florence, where he began to receive private tutoring from Jacopo Borghini, a prominent figure in the educational landscape of the time.
