On 14 November 1969, former Esterbrook employees gathered for the first dinner of the newly organised Esterbrook Alumni Association at the Silver Lake Inn in Clementon, New Jersey. Seven former employees had formed the association to help colleagues remain in contact after the closure of the Venus-Esterbrook plant in Cherry Hill earlier that year. Contemporary reporting announced the event shortly before the dinner, and later historical research records that the association sought to maintain connections among more than 500 former employees. The gathering followed a difficult period for our workforce. Venus-Esterbrook had announced the closure of the Cherry Hill operation in April 1969, and production there ended by the summer. The alumni association provided former colleagues—many of whom had spent decades with Esterbrook—with a way to preserve the personal relationships built during their years at the company.
