BYD introduced the Super e-Platform and Megawatt Flash Charging technology on 17/03/2025 during a technology launch event in China, presenting a new electric vehicle architecture designed to reduce charging times and improve vehicle performance. The announcement outlined a charging system capable of delivering up to 1,000 kilowatts of charging power, a level that exceeded the output of most commercially available passenger vehicle charging systems at the time.
The Super e-Platform was designed around a 1,000 volt electrical architecture and included several new technologies developed by BYD. The platform combined a high performance electric motor, an upgraded power management system, a new generation silicon carbide power chip, and an updated Blade Battery design. According to BYD, the platform was created to support faster energy transfer while maintaining battery efficiency and vehicle reliability.
One of the most closely watched figures from the launch was the company's claim that compatible vehicles could gain approximately 400 kilometers of driving range after five minutes of charging under specific testing conditions. BYD described this capability as achieving a charging speed equivalent to adding about two kilometers of range every second. The company stated that this level of charging performance was intended to narrow the gap between electric vehicle charging and the time required to refuel conventional gasoline powered vehicles.
BYD also announced plans to expand charging infrastructure to support the new technology. The company revealed that it intended to build more than 4,000 ultra fast charging stations across China to accommodate the higher power requirements of the new platform. The first production vehicles scheduled to use the Super e-Platform included the Han L sedan and the Tang L sport utility vehicle.
The introduction of the Super e-Platform highlighted the growing focus on charging speed within the electric vehicle industry. Manufacturers have increasingly invested in higher voltage architectures, improved battery chemistry, and advanced thermal management systems to address concerns related to charging convenience and long distance travel.
