In 2008, Microsoft's diversity goals within its legal division were not achieved. As a result, Microsoft executives donated their bonuses to charity. This initiative was part of Brad Smith's push for diversity, making executive bonuses dependent on the company's and associated law firms' employment of racial minorities, women, and LGBT employees.
