By 2026, Blunsdon House Hotel had been an independent family-owned hospitality business for more than six decades. Our story began in 1957, when Peter and Zan Clifford welcomed bed-and-breakfast guests to Blunsdon House to help accommodate visitors attending the Bath and West Agricultural Show in Swindon. What began alongside the family's farming activities developed into a country club in 1960 and a licensed hotel in 1962.
The Clifford family's involvement continued as the business expanded. Blunsdon House's current history describes the family as custodians of the property since those early years, while hotel material records the business as independently owned and operated by the Clifford family. Contemporary reporting has also documented the involvement of later generations in running the hotel.
In 2026, Blunsdon House remains an independent four-star hotel, combining accommodation, dining, leisure and event facilities within its Wiltshire setting. The more-than-six-decade history reflects continuity of family ownership from a small bed-and-breakfast operation to the hotel business operating today.
