Anthropic introduced Claude 3 Haiku on March 13, 2024, completing the initial Claude 3 model family. Haiku was designed to be the fastest and most cost-efficient model in the Claude 3 lineup, making it suitable for applications that require quick responses and high-volume processing.
Despite being the smaller model in the family, Claude 3 Haiku could perform a wide range of tasks, including text analysis, summarization, content generation, question answering, and image understanding. Its focus was on delivering useful AI responses with very low latency.
With Claude 3 Haiku, Anthropic offered users three different levels of capability: Opus for maximum performance, Sonnet for balance, and Haiku for speed and efficiency. This model lineup became a foundation for Anthropic’s later Claude generations.
