Esarhaddon, the Assyrian king, launched a military campaign against Egypt, targeting the forces led by Pharaoh Taharqa. The conflict arose from ongoing tensions and power struggles in the region, with Egyptian forces preparing to resist Assyrian advances. Esarhaddon's campaign culminated in the conquest of Northern Egypt, where he successfully captured the city of Memphis. This victory was pivotal as it allowed Esarhaddon to impose tribute on the Egyptian territories, demonstrating Assyrian dominance in the region. Following the capture of Memphis, Taharqa fled south to escape the Assyrian forces. However, Esarhaddon managed to capture members of the Pharaoh's family, including Prince Nes-Anhuret and several royal wives, which further solidified his control over Egypt and served as a strategic move to weaken Taharqa's position. The capture of these hostages was significant in maintaining Assyrian influence and ensuring compliance from the Egyptian leadership.
