Airbus announced plans to establish its first commercial aircraft assembly plant in the United States, unveiling the project at the Mobile Convention Center in Mobile, Alabama. The announcement was made by Airbus President and CEO Fabrice Brégier, who confirmed that the company would build a Final Assembly Line for the A320 Family at the Brookley Aeroplex in Mobile. The decision followed years of competition among several U.S. states seeking to host the facility. Airbus selected Mobile due to its aerospace workforce, port access, and existing aviation infrastructure. The project was structured to assemble A319, A320, and A321 aircraft for customers in the United States and other markets. At the time of the announcement, Airbus projected that the plant would create up to 1,000 direct jobs once operating at full capacity, with construction expected to begin in 2013. The facility was designed to complement Airbus’s global production network, which already included Final Assembly Lines in Toulouse, Hamburg, and Tianjin. The Alabama plant aimed to produce up to 40 to 50 aircraft per year, with an initial production rate of four aircraft per month. The investment was estimated at approximately $600 million, marking a significant industrial expansion for Airbus in North America. Airbus stated that the Mobile assembly line would help the company meet growing demand for single aisle aircraft in the United States, the world’s largest aviation market. The plant officially began production in 2015, with the first U.S. assembled A321 delivered to JetBlue Airways in April 2016. #Airbus #MobileAlabama #A320Family #FabriceBregier #AviationIndustry
