On April 16, 2026, Royal Philips announced that its advanced Spectral CT Verida system had received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), marking an important regulatory milestone in the company's development of next-generation medical imaging technology. First unveiled in November 2025, Verida was introduced by Philips as the world's first AI-powered detector-based spectral CT system. The platform combines a third-generation Nano-panel Precise dual-layer detector with Spectral Precise Image, an artificial intelligence-based reconstruction technology designed to reduce image noise, enhance diagnostic image quality, and improve scanning efficiency. The system captures high- and low-energy X-ray information during a single examination, enabling physicians to obtain conventional and spectral imaging results without additional scans. Philips reported reconstruction speeds of up to 145 images per second, allowing complete examinations to be processed in less than 30 seconds under specified conditions. The FDA clearance represented a significant achievement in Philips' continued expansion of artificial intelligence-enabled healthcare technologies and strengthened its position in the advanced diagnostic imaging market. Verida is intended to support a broad range of clinical applications, including radiology, cardiology, vascular imaging, oncology treatment planning, and low-dose lung cancer screening within established protocols. Its always-on spectral imaging capabilities provide additional information about tissue composition and material differences, helping clinicians make more informed diagnostic and treatment decisions. The platform also incorporates workflow improvements designed to increase examination efficiency, with Philips reporting a potential capacity of up to 270 examinations per day under specified operating conditions. The April 2026 clearance enabled Philips to introduce the system to the United States market and reinforced its strategic commitment to integrating artificial intelligence, advanced imaging hardware, and clinical software. This milestone demonstrated Philips' continued investment in precision diagnostics, efficient healthcare delivery, and technologies designed to support better patient care.
